IBF orders Cacace to face mandatory challenger Nunez

In the upcoming future, Matchroom Boxing will have the opportunity to regain the IBF super featherweight title, as the IBF has mandated that newly crowned champion Anthony Cacace must face mandatory challenger Eduardo Nunez. The deadline for them to reach an agreement is June 22nd.

The responsibility to fight Nunez (27-1, 27 KO) was earned by Cacace after defeating former two-time title challenger Shavkat Rakhimov in a final eliminator back in February. Despite the bout not being listed on his BoxRec page due to it being on an IBA show, the IBF recognizes it as a legitimate professional fight, giving Cacace credit for the victory and knockout.

Cacace (22-1, 8 KO) from Queensberry Promotions convincingly defeated reigning champion Joe Cordina in his last fight, delivering a powerful blow in the third round that led to a stoppage in the eighth. While facing a hard-hitting opponent like Nunez may not be in his best interest, it would certainly make for an entertaining fight from a fan’s perspective.
