Devyatov and Kumar define the WBA Oceania lightweight title

The upcoming showdown between Russian-born Australian Alexander Devyatov and India’s Karthik Kumar is set to take place this Friday, May 31st, at the Gold Coast Turf Club in Bundall, Queensland, Australia. The WBA Oceania lightweight title will be up for grabs in this highly anticipated match.

Devyatov, aged 26, has an impressive track record with 14 out of his 15 wins coming by way of knockout. His knockout power will be on full display as he aims to claim the vacant 135-pound title. His last fight in July ended with a knockout victory over Thailand’s Phatiphan Krungklang, and in 2021 he secured the WBA Asia lightweight title.

His opponent, 27-year-old Karthik Kumar from India, boasts a 13-1 record with five knockouts. Kumar will need to bring his A-game to the ring to overcome Devyatov’s power. He has been more active recently, with his last fight taking place in March.

The WBA Oceania lightweight title fight is just one example of the thriving boxing scene in the region. Not long ago, Joseph Goodall claimed the heavyweight title by defeating Faiga Opelu via knockout. Additionally, the upcoming vacant WBA Oceania super featherweight title fight between Sara Jalonen and Jackie Toth is scheduled for June 6th in Sydney, further demonstrating the continuous action in boxing in the continent.
