Andy Cruz Dismisses Keyshawn Davis: “You’re Irrelevant”

Cuban talent Andy Cruz took to social media to respond to lightweight contender Keyshawn Davis’ claims that he’s chasing him for a fight. The 2020 Olympic Cuban gold medalist Cruz dismissed Keyshawn’s claims, letting him know that he’s “irrelevant” and that he’s focusing on going after the world champions at lightweight.

Cruz’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, responded to a text message from Keyshawn about him wanting a contract sent for a fight against his former nemesis. Andy holds a 4-0 record against Keyshawn from their amateur days, and he has his number. In the pro ranks, it would likely be the same result.

However, Hearn says Keyshawn deleted the Tweet, and he took that as a sign that his promoters at Top Rank told him to take it down. Hearn says he would like to make the fight between Cruz and Keyshawn, but he doesn’t see Top Rank giving the green light to the match.

Andy Cruz Fires Back

“Keyshawn Davis, You say the gold medalist is calling you out for a challenge. I’ve never called you out, stupid. You’re irrelevant at this point. I’m looking to fight better. I beat you 4x already. In fact, you were already fighting pro came back to Olympics, and I still beat you,” said Andy Cruz on X, reacting to Keyshawn Davis saying that he’s chasing him, despite having captured a gold medalist in the 2020 Olympics and having beaten him four times in the amateur ranks.

Keyshawn, 24, has already rejected a fight against Cruz, saying that he wants bigger fights, most notably against Teofimo Lopez, who shares the same promoter at Top Rank. That fight isn’t going to happen, though, as Teofimo has no interest in fighting Keyshawn.

Davis’ Path

Keyshawn will likely keep fighting older fighters on the downside of their careers, like his last opponent, Jose Pedraza, and bottom feeders. What we saw in his fights against Nahir Albright and Pedraza is that Keyshawn lacks the talent to beat any of the current champions, Shakur Stevenson or Gervonta Davis.

Keyshawn can still make good money fighting weaker opposition and trash-talking to be a personality, like an Adrien Broner type, but he won’t win any world titles if he has to go through Shakur or Tank.

Cruz has talent and is a real threat to Shakur and Tank Davis, but getting a shot at them won’t be easy because those guys won’t agree to fight him. Promotional politics will likely limit Cruz’s career potential, as he’ll be avoided by the champions, and the sanctioning bodies won’t help him.
