Lopez vs Claggett official for June 29 in Miami

Teofimo Lopez’s upcoming title defense against Steve Claggett in June has been confirmed by Top Rank nearly two months after the announcement. The fight is set to take place at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, Florida. This ESPN event will likely clash with Juan Francisco Estrada vs. “Bam” Rodriguez on DAZN.

Claggett, a 34-year-old Canadian veteran with a record of 38-7-2 and 26 knockouts, will be getting his first world title shot after almost 16 years in the professional boxing scene. Despite his not-so-perfect record, Claggett has some notable wins and has not been stopped in over a decade. He presents an interesting challenge for Lopez compared to his previous opponents.

Lopez expressed his excitement about fighting in South Florida, where he grew up, and emphasized his motivation to showcase his skills in front of his fans. He sees Claggett as a worthy opponent who will provide an entertaining fight for the fans.

In the co-feature, former WBO featherweight champion Robeisy Ramirez will face Brandon Lee Benitez. Ramirez, coming off a tough fight in December, is expected to put on a good performance. Benitez, at 26, has shown improvement since his loss in 2019.

The undercard will feature Nico Ali Walsh against Sona Akale. Walsh, continuing his comeback journey, will look to secure a victory against Akale, who has only one win among his recent record. The odds seem to be in Walsh’s favor in this matchup.
