Roger Gutierrez becomes Fedecetro champion in Maracaibo

The former world champion, Roger “The Kid” Gutiérrez, savors victory once more, triumphing by unanimous decision (100-90 X3) over the resilient Mexican Alan “Superman” Ayala to claim the title of World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedecentro lightweight champion.

Returning to his hometown of Maracaibo, Zulia state, Venezuela, Gutiérrez remains unbeaten as a professional. The support from the city of Maracaibo has played a crucial role in rebuilding his confidence after suffering two consecutive losses, first to the undefeated Georgian Otar Eranosyan in August 2023 and then to the experienced Russian Zaur Abdullaev last February.

In a high-paced bout, Gutiérrez seized control from the outset, taking the fight to Ayala with relentless aggression. The Mexican, on the other hand, sought to counter his opponent’s onslaught by moving strategically around the ring and waiting for his chances to strike back.

As the rounds progressed, Ayala found his rhythm and began to trade blows more frequently with the Venezuelan. However, Gutiérrez’s ring experience and superior physical condition allowed him to weather the storm and deliver effective punches to his opponent’s vulnerable spots.

Securing his second regional title with the WBA, Gutiérrez expressed his gratitude for the support from his fans and his desire to compete in Zulia once again in 2024.

Facing a formidable adversary in Ayala, Gutiérrez acknowledged the tough challenge and anticipated a close fight that would likely be resolved by the judges. “I felt great out there, returning to Maracaibo and fighting in front of my people fills me with joy. I am grateful for their unwavering support and look forward to stepping into the ring here once more this year,” said Gutiérrez.
