Dsalita Skye Nicolson is set to defend her WBC featherweight title against Dyana Vargas on the upcoming Matchroom undercard on July 13th.
The headline bout will feature Jaron “Boots” Ennis defending his IBF welterweight title against Cody Crowley in Ennis’ hometown. This will mark Ennis’ debut with Matchroom Boxing.
Nicolson, with a record of 10-0 and 1 KO, claimed the vacant belt back in April with a dominant victory over Sarah Mahfoud in Las Vegas. Vargas, boasting a record of 18-1 with 12 KOs, is a 32-year-old from the Dominican Republic who is stepping outside her home country for the first time to face Nicolson.
Additional fights on the card include Henry Lebron vs Christopher Diaz, Jalil Hackett vs Peter Dobson, Khalil Coe vs Manuel Gallegos, and more.
The event taking place in Philadelphia, a city not known for major sporting events in recent years, may limit the potential for the undercard fights. However, the focus remains on Ennis fighting in front of his hometown crowd, with hopes that the city of Philadelphia will come out to support their local hero.
