Inoue mandatory Goodman set for July 10 return

Following Naoya Inoue’s impressive victory over Luis Nery, Sam Goodman, the IBF mandatory challenger, did not immediately jump into a title fight with the undisputed super bantamweight champion. No Limit Boxing recently announced that Goodman will be facing Chainoi Worawut in Wollongong on July 10th, with plans to eventually fight Inoue in December.

Fox Sports AU describes Goodman’s decision to take this fight as a bold one, likening it to Tim Tszyu’s strategy of facing tough opponents while waiting for a title shot. However, Worawut, also known as Thattana Luangphon, has primarily fought lesser-known Thai boxers and lacks significant victories over notable opponents.

While the risk of facing an unknown opponent is present, with some Thai fighters surprising on the world stage while others fall short, Goodman’s decision seems calculated. In the meantime, Inoue is being courted to compete in September at Wembley, though his specific opponent remains uncertain. Murodjon Akhmadaliev is considered an ideal challenge for Inoue, providing a stylistic matchup and potentially satisfying his WBA obligations.

In addition to the main event, the upcoming card will feature Liam Wilson moving up to face Youssef Dib, brother of veteran boxer Billy Dib, in a lightweight bout. This event also presents the opportunity for UK fighters like Dennis McCann, Liam Davis, and Shabaz Masoud to potentially be included on the card.
