WBC orders Vargas vs Figueroa title consolidation

In a much-needed development, Lance Pugmire has reported that the WBC has finally mandated featherweight champion Rey Vargas to defend his title against interim champion Brandon Figueroa.

Shortly after Vargas’s unsuccessful attempt to win the vacant super featherweight title from O’Shaquie Foster, Figueroa secured the interim belt by defeating Mark Magsayo last March. Instead of immediately arranging for a showdown between the two, the WBC allowed Vargas to take a year off before engaging in a lackluster performance against Nick Ball.

Two months later, Figueroa ended his own hiatus by defeating Jessie Magdaleno in what was considered a mediocre performance up until that point.

It is uncertain how the upcoming fight will unfold. Figueroa is known for being vulnerable to hits and outmaneuvering, while Vargas struggled to dominate the entire Ball fight before his shorter opponent started making significant headway. One thing that is certain is that the referee will have a challenging task ahead of them.
